On February 25, 2017, Bosnian Americans and friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina (ACBH) as well as the 25th anniversary of the U.S. recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) independence. The keynote address was delivered by former Vice President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. who was honored with the ACBH Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in stopping the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"As the world failed to intervene, you lived it, you lost family, you lost homes; you struggled to maintain your dignity. This was not a civil war - this was genocide! Plain and simple genocide, Remind your children of the past - everyone should know the past! You made enormous sacrifices, all for one purpose, to live in a peaceful and necessarily multi-ethnic democracy." Vice President Joseph R. Biden
